This unique take on flowers for Mother's Day uses Americana® Decou-Page™.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- sandpaper
- X-Acto® knife
- foam board
- assorted scrapbook paper
- 8" x 10" basswood canvas
- paper flowers
- paintbrushes
INSTRUCTIONS
- Using the hollow side of the wooden canvas, paint the borders of the canvas in Blue Mist. Using Gloss Decou-Page, affix a piece of matching scrapbook paper to the inside.
- Cut out the shape of a vase from scrapbook paper in a contrasting color. Use an X-Acto knife to cut out the vase shape from foam board and use Gloss Decou-Page to adhere the scrapbook paper vase to the foam board vase. Let dry.
- Once the background paper and vase are dry, use Gloss Decou-Page to adhere the vase to the bottom of the canvas.
- Around the inside edge of the frame, dry-brush Thicket in a halo around the vase. Using sandpaper, lightly sand away the surface of the edges of the canvas, creating an antique look.
- Cut out flowers from magazines. To create depth, decoupage flowers directly to the background and some onto one layer of foam board. (Use Gloss Decou-Page to adhere the cut out flowers to foam board.) Let dry. Once dry, use an X-Acto knife to cut out the flowers from the foam board.
- Arrange the flowers over the vase and adhere in with Gloss Decou-Page. Let dry. Once dry, paint an addition layer of Gloss Decou-Page over the paper background, flowers and the vase for extra shine.
