SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • unfinished wooden serving tray
    • two foam craft brushes
    • chalk
    • dry rag or paintbrush
    • damp rag
    • chalkboard marker
    • deer stencil (optional)

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Wipe down the tray with a dry rag or paintbrush to ensure that surface is smooth and free of sawdust, particles, etc.
    2. Paint serving area of the tray with one coat of Black Chalkboard Paint. (Make sure that all paint strokes travel in the same direction.) Follow label instructions and apply a second coat in the other direction.
    3. Paint remaining unfinished surfaces (sides, handles, etc.) with Cocoa Bean. Let dry for approximately one hour.
    4. Apply a second coat of Cocoa Bean to achieve a stained wood look. Optional: three coats will create a more solid color effect.
    5. Once the final coat has dried, apply a deer head stencil to the side of the tray. Use a foam brush to apply a light coat of Chalkboard Paint over stencil. (Or freehand the deer head with pencil and fill in with Chalkboard Paint.) Let dry one hour between coats.
    6. After the paint has dried, gently rub a stick of chalk all over surface of tray’s serving area to condition chalkboard surface. Wipe off with a damp cloth.
