DIY Wooden Chalkboard Gift Tags
Posted by DecoArt on Nov 25th 2013
Every year as we get closer and closer to Christmas, I start thinking about unique ways to spruce up my gift presentation. Some years it involves names written on wrapping paper in different lettering, other years it involves glittery ribbon, bakers twine and non-bow embellishments.
This year, I decided to bring my love of all things chalkboard into my wrapping and whip up some simple and easy DIY Wooden Chalkboard Gift Tags.
Items Needed:
- Small Wooden Tags From Michaels
- Paint Brushes
Instructions:
First you will want to take the SKU stickers off of your wooden tags and make sure they are free from dust that may have attached to them while sitting on the shelf at Michaels.
Next, paint your Chalkboard Paint in one, consistent direction. I chose to paint my first coat on the horizontal, so that I would have minimal brushstrokes for my second coat.
Wait one hour, and then paint your second coat going in the opposite direction. Allow to dry for 24 hours to ensure that the paint cure properly.
Next, add some details in green, red, white and brown to match your Christmas color palette using Americana Acrylics or Multi Surface Satin. Think dashes, dots, piping around the edge of your mini chalkboards.
Now, rub with chalk, then wipe clean.
Tie your pretty packages with ribbon, fabric, burlap or twine, then loop your wooden chalkboard gift tags on using contrasting ribbon, twine, or yarn. Write a simple note of JOY, PEACE, or LOVE or the monogram of your gift recipient.
Happy gift giving, and warm wishes from the Sweet Stella’s studio.
