Home Decor Trend: Denim

What’s your favorite, goes-with-everything, most comfortable outfit in your wardrobe?

I bet it starts with a pair of jeans.

Blue jeans are America’s most iconic fashion staple, so it’s no wonder that durable, comfortable and casual denim is also hot in home fashion. From inky indigo tones to worn and faded blues, the jeanswear influence is popping up in upholstery, paint colors and techniques and home accessories.

As anyone who has ever worn a pair of jeans knows, denim can be dressed up or dressed down with the right accessories, and it pairs with any color – from neutrals to pastels to the boldest bolds.

How about this dark denim sofa, accented with pops of fiery red and orange and bright indigo?

Designer Toby Fairley pairs a bright denim sofa with shades of blue and aqua to create a colorful, cozy and relaxing family gathering space.

Faded denim tones are perfect for coastal, cottage and Scandinavian-influenced color palettes. Lemony yellow, white, aqua and pale green work well with chambray blue.
Just as blue jeans can be dressed up or dressed down, denim works with a variety of design styles.

There are definitely some traditional touches in this living room, featured at Better Homes & Gardens, like the damask print denim cocktail ottoman.

This HGTV look is a bit more transitional with its comfortable slipcovered sofa upholstered in soft, faded denim.

In this rustic hunting ranch by Design House, Inc., designers chosen a denim paint treatment for the walls, then brought in rustic touches with driftwood mirrors and galvanized washtubs used as sinks.

This dark denim love seat is downright preppy against an argyle wall.

Ralph Lauren Home gives denim a southwestern feel.

HGTV host Brian Patrick Flynn used slate blue drapes as the backdrop for his eclectic dining room. The room also features leather, animal prints, brass, mirrors and black furniture.

Here, denim has an industrial vibe.

How would you use denim in your home? Would go for a moody blue wall treatment, as featured in this Ralph Lauren design in House Beautiful?

Or do you prefer denim upholstery?

Or accents, like pillows, throws and other accessories?

And what’s your favorite color to pair with denim from the DecoArt Americana Chalky Finish Paint palette?
