Add plaid to an outdoor space with a table and chair created with Americana Decor® Color Stain™.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES:

Test out the plaid pattern on a piece of extra wood to perfect and tweak the pattern.

1. Lightly sand the table and chair. (For this particular project, I had to use my power sander with 80-grit sandpaper to take off the black finish that was on the table. Always wear a mask when sanding.) Once you have the surface sanded, make sure you fill in any holes or glue down any wood that is loose. (I used Americana Wood Glue to help the table with its swaying problem.)

2. Paint the legs of the table and the chair in Charcoal with a sponge brush. (This is with only one coat. I applied liberally because I knew I wanted a darker stain on the legs. Using the sponge brush helped with keeping the color even.) Apply in the direction of wood grain. (It gives a smooth and natural look.)

3. Run a test of plaid color and pattern on a scrap piece of wood. (This step is good so you can see how the colors will look layered and the placement of the lines. It doesn't need to look perfect on this trial run, but it is a very important step.)

4. Start plaid pattern with Coral. Let dry completely. Apply Deep Berry. (You want to allow enough time for the horizontal lines to dry before attempting the vertical lines.)

5. Apply Deep Berry in vertical lines. Let dry completely.

6. Apply Chambray in vertical and horizontal lines, referring to pattern, to complete the plaid pattern.
