Are your paints dishwasher-safe?

Not all, but some of our paint brands are formulated to allow them to be baked on a surface to become dishwasher safe. Follow the instructions on Americana Multi-Surface Satin, DecoArt Glass Paint, DecoArt Gloss Enamels, and Americana Decor Chalky Finish for glass to make these products dishwasher-safe.

What paints can I use outside?

We have several brands formulated for outdoor use. DecoArt Patio Paint Outdoor and Americana Multi-Surface Satin paints are formulated to work well outside without the need for a sealer. We also have Americana Decor Outdoor Living for larger outdoor DIY projects. Additionally, we have the sppecially formated Curb Appeal Outdoor Paint created for painting front doors, shutters, railings, and more.

Where are your products made?

Our paints and mediums are formulated, tested, made, bottled, and labeled in our factory in the U.S.A.

How much area will 2 oz. of paint cover?

DecoArt acrylic paints will cover 1 to 2 square feet per ounce, depending on the thickness of application and the porousness of the surface. Therefore, 2 oz. of acrylic paint would typically cover an area of 24 to 48 inches or 2 to 4 feet.

Are DecoArt products non-toxic?

Most DecoArt products are AP Seal approved, meaning they are certified in a toxicological evaluation by a medical expert to contain no materials in sufficient quantities to be toxic or injurious to humans, including children, or to cause acute or chronic health problems. For more specific information, please contact us at 800-367-3047 or decoart@decoart.com.

Are DecoArt products food safe?

DecoArt does not consider any of our current products to be food safe for people or pets. DecoArt paints should not come in contact with any foods or any person's mouth. They can be used on glassware as long as the paint does not come into contact with anything that will be ingested.

How do I properly dispose of DecoArt paints?

DecoArt does not recommend pouring any paint or any chemicals down the drain, even when diluted. The preferred disposal method would be to donate the paint to a recycling center if your area has one. If not, you can allow the paint to dry out by either mixing it with a desiccant (like kitty litter) or opening the bottle/can and allowing the paint to air dry. You can dispose of them with solid waste once they are dry.

How long does it take DecoArt paint to dry between coats?

DecoArt products are water-based, and generally one coat of paint takes between 15 to 30 minutes to dry to the touch. Variables such as surfaces and environmental elements like heat, cold, and moisture may affect dry times.

What surfaces can your paints be used on?

For approved surfaces for each product family, please click here to view our catalog.

How do I remove DecoArt paints from hard and soft surfaces?

All DecoArt paints are considered permanent once dry. While we cannot guarantee results, DecoArt recommends Jack's Linseed Studio Soap to clean the work surface, floor, and just about anything else that needs cleaning. Test on surface before using. For best results, soap and water clean up is recommended while paint is still wet. Jack's Linseed Studio Soap carries the AP Seal of Approval.
