A Sweet History of Gingerbread
There’s something about gingerbread that instantly evokes the magic of the holiday season. Whether it’s the scent of spiced cookies baking in the oven, the delicate construction of gingerbread houses, or the playful charm of gingerbread people, this tradition has delighted families for centuries.
Over time, gingerbread has taken on new roles in holiday celebrations. From edible creations to charming faux decorations, its whimsical style remains a hallmark of festive decor. Why Cardboard Gingerbread?
Faux gingerbread decorations are perfect for those who love the look of holiday cookies but don’t want the hassle of baking. Plus, these garlands last for years, making them a sustainable option for holiday decorating. Cardboard crafts are easy to do, sustainable, and look great! Using DecoArt’s 3D Acrylic Writers and 3D Frosting, you can mimic the look of real icing with none of the sticky cleanup—perfect for a fake bake!
How does it come together?
1. Prepare Your Base:
Draw your designs directly onto the cardboard, and cut your cardboard into festive shapes—gingerbread men, gingerbread houses, stars, or even candy canes. If you have stencils, those can help with clean edges, but freehanding adds a rustic charm!
2. Add Your "Icing":
Here’s where the magic happens! Using DecoArt’s 3D Frosting Paint, pipe on the icing details like shingles, windows, and cookie outlines. Add colorful accents with DecoArt’s 3D Acrylic Writers for buttons, hearts, or decorative swirls. The raised texture mimics real icing for a delightful faux finish.
4. Assemble Your Garland:
Once dry, attach your "cookies" to the twine/ribbon with hot glue. Alternate shapes and tie ribbons in between for added festivity!
5. Style It Up:
Hang your garland on a mantel, around a doorway, or on the Christmas tree. Pair it with fairy lights or greenery to complete the look.
Let Your Creativity Shine!
This project is all about embracing the playful, nostalgic side of holiday crafting. Whether you’re making this garland solo, with friends, or as a family activity, you’re sure to add a little extra sweetness to your holiday decor.
