TIP: Set up all of your supplies to have them easily accessible to not disturb your flow of creativity.
How does it come together?
1. Plan Your Design
Before diving in, sketch your ideas on paper. Holly leaves, candy canes, bows, or even abstract shapes. If freehand drawing isn’t your forte, you can print a template, tape it inside the glass, and trace over it.
2. Outline with the Glass Paint Marker
Using the DecoArt Stained Glass Leading (in black or gold), draw your design onto wax paper. This step imitates adding the "leading" to stained glass. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect—holiday charm is all about handmade quirks! Let the outline dry 6-8 hours.
3. Fill with Color
Once the outline is dry, use DecoArt Stained Glass Paints to fill in the sections. The colors will look slightly opaque at first but will dry to a beautiful translucent finish. Allow your design to dry completely. This usually takes 24 hours, depending on the thickness of the paint.
4. Peel and Transfer!
Gently lift the edges of your designs from the wax side of the paper and peel them off! The stained glass designs are now ready to stick onto glass. Choose where you'd like your designs to go and lay them onto the glass with the flat backing touching the smooth glass. Press the edges of the paint down carefully, and hold the designs for 30 seconds to adhere. Allow the tealights to sit overnight to fully harden.
5. Add a Twine Hanger & Tealight
Tie a piece of twine or ribbon to the top of the glass, pop in an LED tealight, and voilà—your glowing masterpiece is ready to hang!
Why They’re Perfect for Lighting
These tealight hangers are more than just festive—they’re functional. The translucent stained glass designs diffuse the light from the LED tealights, creating a warm and soft glow that’s easy on the eyes. Hung in a group, they add dimension and depth to your space, working beautifully as accent lighting. Place them near a wall or window to see the colors softly reflect, or hang them overhead for a whimsical floating effect.
