Step 1
Gather all materials. If needed, sand wooden in a well ventilated area. Wipe away dust.

Step 2
Gather water marbling materials and set up area. Make sure everything is accessible. Start by pouring a line of White down the center of the tray, repeat. Doing this creates an even base layer to build upon.

Step 3
Using the Black Water Marbling Acrylic, drop 4-5 circles or "stones" onto the surface. In each black stone, drop a stone of white into the center. Continue to do this alternating black and white. To get smaller stones, dip the ends of two of DecoArt's Specialty Water Marbling Sticks or Water Marbling Sumi Brushes into the black and white paints. Touch the tips of the loaded sticks/brushes onto the surface in the center of each stone.

Step 4
Gently blow the surface of the paint. Once the desired look is acheived, dip a wooden star into the paint/size. Drain off excess size and place on a non-stick surface like freezer paper. Allow to dry.

TIP: This technique is inspired by the traditonal Japanese Suminagashi method which uses floating ink and sumi brushes.
Step 5
Clean the leftover paint off of the surface of the size by laying a cleaning paper on the surface. Continue to do this until paper comes up clean. To a smaller object such as the beads, lay a clean sheet of cleaning paper on the surface of the size to block off a smaller open area to water marble in. Drop black and white paints onto the size surface int the same manner as the previous steps. Gently absorb excess size using a paper towel. Set beads on a non-stick surface and allow to dry.

Step 6
In a clean area, gather your dried stars/beads, string/yarn, scissors, hot glue gun, and hot glue sticks.

Step 7
Feed a loop of yarn through two beads. Leave a loop at the bottom to add tassel.

Step 8
Create a tassel by wrapping yarn around hand and cutting the bottom. Feed through the loop and tie off. Trim the ends with scissors to be even.

Step 9
Pull the yarn so the tassel is at the bottom on the beads. Pour a line of hot glue down the center of one of the stars. Place the string into glue and allow to cool. Pour more glue around the edges of the star and place the second star on top, pressing into place until cooled. Knot the top of the yarn to creat a loop. That's it! Simple, modern and fun.
