    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

This project recycles an old t-shirt into a reusable tote. The size of the t-shirt will determine the size of the tote. For this project, I used a green t-shirt.

    1. Turn the t-shirt inside out. Cut off the sleeves following the seam. Cut out the neckline. (This cut will determine how long your tote handles will be. Better to cut these longer and tie off later, if the handles are too long.)
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Match up the bottom seams and lay the shirt flat. Cut 1" wide by 2" tall sections along the bottom. (If you need to make your tote size smaller, cut a taller fringe and trim later.)
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Tie the front fringe to the corresponding back fringe in knots. Do this along the entire bottom.
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Flip the tote inside out so the fringe is in the interior of the tote. (See photo: The bottom of the tote will look like this.)
    8. Instruction #4
    9. Smooth the surface of the tote onto a wood board or piece of cardboard that is slightly larger than the tote. (Make sure the surface is smooth and a tight fit.) Tape off the handles with painter's tape.
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Using White and a medium flat brush, paint round shapes around 3"-4" inches wide. Fill in completely.
    12. Instruction #6
    13. In the spaces between the White shapes, use Indian Turquoise to paint varying sizes of leaf shapes.
    14. Instruction #7
    15. Allow to dry and apply a second coat. (Tip: After painting and before it is completely dry, gently pull the fabric away from the surface so the paint doesn't adhere the t-shirt to the board.)
    16. Instruction #8
    17. Mix 2:1 Fuchsia and Red Pepper. Use the mix to paint around the outer edges of the White shapes. Allow to dry and apply a second coat.
    18. Instruction #9
    19. Dip the handle end of a paintbrush in Lamp Black and place dots randomly in each round shape.
    20. Instruction #10
    21. Touch up any paint and allow to dry completely.
