A Timeless Craft Meets Modern Design
Stained glass has long been admired for its vibrant colors and intricate designs, dating back to medieval cathedrals. Today, artists bring a fresh spin to this age-old craft, experimenting with playful color schemes and bold typography—just like the “Let it Snow” piece we’re featuring here. Inspired by winter blues and classic, gothic styles, this project will capture both the beauty of stained glass and the cozy spirit of the season. It's now easier than ever to DIY stained glass at home (no glass required!). Follow along with our template design or create your own!

How does it come together?
First, gather your supplies and set up your workspace.
Our DecoArt Stained Glass Paint Collection allows you to recreate the luminous colors seen in traditional glass- but with the ease of a paintbrush. These rich, transparent hues layer beautifully to replicate stained glass, with our Duraclear Varnishes adding that final frosty detail.
Use our gold stained glass leading paint to outline the template below (or any holiday design!) on your chosen surface. Make sure to choose a clear surface, or light won't be able to travel through the pigment in the paint to create that famous stained glass finish.
Once the gold leading has dried down, either squeeze the stained glass colors into the segmented shapes outlined with the leading, or apply in layers with a paintbrush. We recommend directly applying from the bottle for the boldest and brightest color payoff!
Repeat with Duraclear Galaxy Varnish and Duraclear Iridescent Varnish- using the exact same technique! For extra texture, wait until the varnishes are 50% dry, and use a fork or wooden stick to create dazzling lines and patterns on the surface.
Allow stained glass leading, paint, and varnishes to dry and hang your snowflake masterpiece in a window to let the light shine through!
The Finished Look: A Frosted Winter Scene
This project has it all—a perfect blend of bold color, intricate snowflakes, and vintage charm. From every angle, the vibrant blues and purples stand out, adding a cozy winter glow to any room.
