Chair Makeover Bright and Rustic

Hello there!  Today I am sharing a chair makeover that is bright and rustic.  I go to a local auction hall once a week with my family.  It is a nice pass time and something fun to do.  You never know what kind of treasures you might find hiding in all the clutter.  Recently, my husband bought four wooden chairs for $6 total.  That's less than $2 per chair.  With summer coming up, I wanted to give one of the chairs a nice bright color makeover with a little rustic touch.

Items Needed:

  • Bristle Brush
  • Wax Brush
  • Sanding Sponge
  • Sand Paper 150 Grit

First I started by cleaning the chair using a damp rag.  I was able to remove the grime with a little scrubbing.

Here are a few more close up photographs of the chair.  As you can see this chair has a lot of scrapes.  It even have a sticker on the top rim.

Next, I picked out some bright and summery colors.  I choose Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Treasure and Heritage.

I started by painting the entire chair with a thin coat of Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Heritage with a regular bristle brush.  This is a golden mustard yellow color that will be the base color for the chair.

After the first layer of paint dried, I added a second layer, using Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Treasure.  This is a bright teal blue color.  Treasure will be the primary color of this chair makeover.

Once the second layer of chalky paint dried, I used a 150 grit sanding sponge to distress the chair.  I just sanded down the areas where I wanted the yellow Heritage paint to show through.  After I was happy with the distressing, I added a thin coat of creme wax using a waxing brush to seal the chalky finish.

I love how this chair makeover turned out.  I added a fun pop of color with a pillow and added an old wood crate that my husband also bought at the auction.
