Chalky Finish Bird Cage

Chalky Finish Bird Cage

Posted by DecoArt on May 13th 2014

I  nabbed this pretty birdcage at a DownEast Home sale a few years ago.  I loved the metal look but have always envisioned painting it.  Then it sat in various locations of my house until I finally decided on a color.  Or rather, three very pretty colors!  You know we can't get enough of DecoArt's Chalky Finish.  We've created several furniture pieces using chalk paint and wanted to see how it would do on metal.  The conclusion?  It covered beautifully.

Items Needed:

  • Sand Paper
  • Painter's Tape
  • Foam Brushes

Instructions:

Paint the base base of the bird cage Delicate.

When completely dry, tape off lines and then paint Primitive. Peel up the tape.

Paint the outside of the birdcage Refreshing.

Use the sand paper to rough up the cage when it is completely dry.

That's all there is to it.  If you want to seal it, use DecoArt's Light Satin Finish.  Otherwise, let it distress naturally over time which is what we prefer.  Easy makeover that matches the scheme of our home a little more than plain metal!
