Use Americana® Decor™ Chalky Finish to turn any flea market table into a chessboard or checkerboard for a unique home décor item.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • sandpaper
    • ruler
    • pencil
    • painter's tape
    • 3" chip brush
    • round wooden table
    • wooden chess pieces
    • Murphy's® Oil Soap

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Always clean flea market finds well before painting. Wipe with damp rag to remove dust, dirt, or sticky spots. If there is oily residue on wood, use warm water and Murphy’s® Oil Soap to clean. Rinse and dry immediately.
    2. Use chip brush to paint entire table Vintage. Let dry.
    3. Use ruler and pencil to mark off equal-sized squares for game board to fit table. (Chessboards have eight squares x eight squares for total of 64.)
    4. Mix equal parts of Vintage and Everlasting on palette or plastic plate. Use 3/4" flat brush and mix to paint every other square. When dry, coat with Ultra-Matte Varnish. Let dry between coats.
    5. Chess Pieces: Use 3/4" flat brush and Treasure to paint one set and New Life to paint remaining set.
    6. When dry, use Ultra-Matte Varnish to seal chess pieces, as desired.
