Christmas House Mixed Media Pillow

Here is a holiday home décor pillow made with DecoArt Media® and Fabric Decou-Page.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • scissors
    • ruler
    • 3/8" stencil brush
    • #6 flat brush
    • #12 flat brush
    • button
    • #1 round brush
    • pen or pencil
    • fabric
    • fabric pillow
    • E6000 Glue

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Flip a piece of fabric over on its back side. Use a pencil and ruler to make the house pattern fit on the pillow. (Mine goes all the way to the side and bottom edge and up about 9".)

    3. Use scissors to cut out the house shape.

    5. Use a 12" flat brush to apply Fabric Decou-Page to the fabric pillow where the house will go.

    7. While still wet, place the house fabric down and brush more Decou-Page on top. Rinse brush.

    9. Use a pencil and ruler to make a roof shape (or just trace and transfer the roof pattern) onto the back of a different piece of fabric.

    11. Use scissors to cut out the roof.

    13. Use a pencil and ruler to make a small rectangle shape (or trace and transfer the chimney pattern) onto the back of the brown patterned fabric. Cut out with scissors.

    15. Use the 12" flat brush to apply Decou-Page to the fabric pillow where the roof will be. Quickly press the roof fabric down and brush more Decou-Page on top.

    17. Use the same brush to apply Decou-Page to the fabric pillow where the chimney will be. Quickly lay the chimney fabric down and apply more Decou-Page on top. Rinse brush.

    19. Use a pencil to trace and transfer the door pattern to the back of another fabric.

    21. Use scissors to cut out the fabric door.

    23. Use a pencil to trace and transfer the window pattern onto another fabric.

    27. Use a pencil to trace and transfer the Christmas tree pattern to the back side of the green swirl fabric.

    29. Use scissors to cut out the fabric tree.

    31. Use pencil to trace and transfer the wreath pattern to the reverse side of the green swirl fabric.

    33. Use scissors to cut out the fabric wreath.

    35. Mix (2) parts Titanium White with (1) part Cobalt Teal Hue and a very small amount of water on a palette or plastic plate. Use a 12" flat brush to paint a thin coat of the mix over the house shape (but not on the roof). Rinse brush.

    37. Cut out a bird (or animal of choice) from fabric. (I had a fabric that already had birds on it.)

    39. Use a 12" flat brush and Decou-Page to apply some to the house shape where you want the door. Quickly lay the door fabric down and brush more Decou-Page on top.

    41. Quickly place the wreath fabric down and brush more Decou-Page on top.

    43. Lay the fabric bird (or animal of choice) down on the wreath or the ground and apply more Decou-Page. Rinse brush.

    45. Use a 12" flat brush to apply a coat of Decou-Page to the house where the window will go. Quickly place the window fabric down and apply more Decou-Page on top.

    47. Quickly place the Christmas tree in the lower part of the window and apply more Decou-Page on top. Rinse brush.

    49. Use a #6 flat brush to mix (1) part Titanium White with (1) part Cadmium Red Hue. Use the mix to paint on frames on the door and window. Rinse brush. Save the mix for a future step.

    51. Use a #6 flat brush and Yellow Oxide to paint on curtains on each side of the window. Rinse brush.

    53. Use a pencil to trace and transfer the bush pattern to the back of the green swirl fabric; cut out with scissors.

    55. Use the 12" flat brush to apply Decou-Page to the house where the bush will be. Place the bush fabric down and brush more Decou-Page on top. Rinse brush.

    57. Use a #1 round brush to apply Cadmium Red Hue to add lines to look like wood on the window and door frames. Use a #6 flat brush and Dark Grey Value 3 to scallop the roof. Rinse brush.

    59. Use scissors to cut out a rectangular piece from white polka dot fabric. Use the #6 flat brush and Cadmium Red Hue to paint on the number 25. Rinse brush.

    61. Use the handle end of the #1 round brush dipped in Cadmium Red Hue to make berries on the wreath and bush. Wipe off handle.

    63. Use the mix from STEP 25 with a #1 round brush to paint "u" shapes in the scalloped roof. Rinse brush. Use the #12 flat brush and Decou-Page to apply the roof on the house above the door. Place the fabric 25 on the house and brush more Decou-Page on top. Rinse brush.

    65. Use the handle end of a #1 round brush and load separately with Titanium White, Cadmium Red Hue, Green Gold, and Cobalt Teal Hue to add lights and strands around the Christmas tree. Wipe off handle before switching colors and at the end.

    67. Use a 3/8" stencil brush to lightly dab on Titanium White for snow on the chimney, roof, wreath, window frame, and bush. Rinse brush.

    69. Use a #1 round brush and Cadmium Red Hue to loosely outline the fabric 25 and add a few painted-on stitches. Rinse brush.

    71. Use a #1 round brush and Carbon Black to loosely outline the tree, window and door frames, scalloped roof, roof, and chimney. Add random stitches to all as well. Rinse brush.

    73. Use E6000 Glue to adhere a button of choice for a star on the Christmas tree.
