Colorful Upcycled Utensil Holders

Brighten up a summer table with these tin can-turned utensil holders made colorful with Crafter's Acrylics®.
SUPPLIES
- parchment paper
- soap and water
- 3/4" painter's tape
- fine tip brush
- 3/4" paintbrush
- spray paint in white enamel
- twine
- tin cans
- metal file
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Protect the work surface from paint using a sheet of parchment paper.
File the edges of the tin can using a metal file to eliminate any rough or sharp edges.
Wash and dry each can thoroughly with soap and water before painting.
- Apply a thin coat of the white enamel spray paint to the base of the tin cans. Allow to dry fully before proceeding.
- Using a 3/4" paintbrush, paint the majority of the middle sections in White.
- Repeat for all three tin cans. Let dry.
- Once dry, apply painter’s tape to each of the tin cans in a varying stripe pattern. (See photo.)
- Paint one of the taped off sections in Grasshopper Green.
- Repeat for all three tin cans.
- Carefully peel off the painter’s tape.
- Add painter’s tape to the tin cans for the next striped color. Leave ¼” spacing below the green area for a thin white stripe.
- Paint one of the taped off sections in Tutti Fruitti.
- Repeat for all three tin cans and carefully peel off the painter’s tape.
- Add painter’s tape to the tin cans for the next striped color.
- Paint the taped off sections in Turquoise.
- Carefully peel off the painter’s tape.
- Use a fine tip paintbrush to touch up any rough edges or paint peeled off from the tape.
- Tie a piece of twine around each of the painted tin cans.
