Contemporary Colander Planters

Add a pop of color to an outdoor space with these contemporary colanders painted with Americana® Multi-Surface Acrylics.

SUPPLIES

    • palette or plastic plate
    • scissors
    • 1" foam brush
    • floral picks
    • potting soil
    • 1" flat brush
    • hemp rope or twine
    • colander

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Paint the medium and large colanders using Cotton Ball. Let the paint dry completely.

    3. Add decorative weave and stripes using Black Tie and strokes going in two diagonal directions. Leave some spots open for the pops of Shrimp, Chick, and Soft Jade.

    5. Paint the smallest colander using Shrimp. (Add additional coats as needed. ) Let dry completely.

    7. Add Shrimp, Chick, and Soft Jade swipes to the large colander. Let dry.

    9. Add vertical stripes of Black Tie to the medium colander. Add a stripe of Soft Jade to the medium colander. Let dry.

    11. Disassemble the flowers from the cluster arrangements so that each is its own individual pick. Leave the grass picks assembled.

    13. Cut long strands of twine and wrap around each colander handle. (Leave enough excess on ends for hanging.)

    15. Continue wrapping until the entire handle is sufficiently covered.

    17. Fill the colanders with potting soil and arrange the stems and picks evenly.

    19. Hang colanders at staggering heights using the extra twine attached to each handle.
