Daffodils and Pussy Willow Heart Box

What better way to announce spring than a decorative box with sunny daffodils and pussy willow accents.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- paper towels
- 3/4" flat brush
- #2 liner brush
- #8 flat brush
- #4 flat brush
- #12 flat brush
- #1 liner brush
- 1/2" mop brush
- #6/0 liner brush
- heart-shaped box
INSTRUCTIONS
- Basecoat the entire box with a 1:1 mixture of Country Blue and Snow White.
- Background: Wash around the edge of the box's top with a mix of the Country Blue/Snow White mix and Payne's Grey. Soften with a 1/2" mop brush.
- Highlight the inside of the upper right curve with Banana Cream.
- The edge of the lid and the bottom matching band are one coat of the Country Blue/Snow White/Payne's Grey mix from step 2.
- Leaves: Basecoat with one coat of Hauser Medium Green; shade with a mix of Hauser Medium Green and Evergreen. Highlight with Hauser Light Green.
- Shade again with Evergreen; highlight again with Lemonade.
- Random tints are a mix of Peaches 'n Cream and Naphthol Red.
- Daffodils: Basecoat the petals with a mix of Banana Cream and Snow White. Basecoat the trumpet with just Banana Cream.
- Shade the petals with a mix of Banana Cream and highlight with Snow White.
- Highlight the petals again with Warm White.
- Shade the petals and trumpet with Cadmium Yellow.
- If needed, highlight the petals again with Warm White.
- Shade the trumpet with a mix of Cadmium Yellow, a touch of Naphthol Red, and a touch of Peaches 'n Cream.
- Shade inside of the trumpet with a sheer float of Naphthol Red.
- Ruffle the edges of the trumpet with a mix of Naphthol Red and Peaches 'n Cream.
- Highlight below the inside shading with a float of mix of Banana Cream and Snow White.
- If needed, highlight edges with a sheer float of Snow White on the edges of the petals.
- Pussy willows: The stems are Burnt Umber.
- Using a sharp, chisel-edged #4 flat brush, the puffs are a load of Grey Sky; tip one corner with a tiny dot of Burnt Umber; and lay the other side into Snow White. Stand the brush on the chisel edge and slightly push up without lifting the brush from the surface. (It is a slight rocking motion to the top of the brush.)
- The Burnt Umber dot is attached to the stem and the Snow White side of the top of the puff.
- The puffs alternate up the stem.
- Finishing details: The sides of the lid and bottom section of the box are finger-rubbed with Silver Spark.
- The stripe above the bottom section of the box is a mix of the yellow colors. (You could choose any color or colors from the palette.)
- Mark off the border design on the box bottom in 1" sections.
- The lines; strokes on the top; stroke work border on the sides; and ribbon are Snow White with a touch of the Country Blue/Snow White mix.
- Varnish with three coats of DuraClear Satin Varnish, allowing to dry between coats.
