Decou-Page Decorative Map Balls

Decou-Page Decorative Map Balls

I'm loving the map trend that is all over pinterest. I was trying to find a small way to add some map decor to our house and thought about some styrofoam balls I've had laying around my garage waiting for me to give them a purpose. I love decorative balls, but they can sometimes be costly...so today I'm showing you the DIY Decoupage Decorative Map Balls I made for $3.

Items Needed:

  • Styrofoam Balls {smooth, Old Plastic Christmas Ornaments Will Also Work}
  • Foam Brush
  • Old Or New Maps Torn In To Small Pieces

Instructions:

It's pretty easy.  Even if you have never used a decoupage product it's really simple.  Begin by tearing your map in to small pieces.  Using your foam brush paint the back of each map piece and apply it to your styrofoam ball one piece at a time.  Carefully and firmly press it down for a second and it will adhere, then move on to your next map piece.  Continue this process until the whole ball is covered.

I like to use a long wooden skewer to help me seal the whole ball with more decoupage.  I simply place the skewer in to a spot that isn't as noticeable when I'm done with the whole thing.  Then brush a layer of decoupage over the whole thing to seal it.  I let it dry on the skewer in a cup, then remove the skewer when it's dry.  You can hardly notice the hole.

Either fill a bowl on a tabletop, a vase, or a basket with these super cute map balls.  I made 8 map balls for $3, that included all my supplies.
