Evergreen Tree Canvas Duo

Decoupaged decorative holiday papers combine with Traditions™ Artist Acrylics on this duo of winter wall canvases.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • scissors
    • 3/4" flat brush
    • decorative paper
    • soft bristle, full brush
    • two 5" x 5" stretched canvases
    • sponge dauber
    • glue
    • paper trees
    • fine glitter
    • paper doilies

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. GREEN CANVAS: Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the canvas with a mix of Opaque White and Warm White.
    2. Cut out a small section, about 2½”, of the smaller doily and adhere it to the canvas with Americana Matte Decou-Page about 2” from the top on the left side.
    3. Mix 1 part Pine Green; 1 part Yellow Oxide; 1 part Dark Grey Value 3; and 3 parts Opaque White.
    4. Mix a small bit of the above mix with an equal part of Glazing Medium and brush onto the doily on the canvas with a 3/4" flat brush. (Wipe with a slightly damp paper towel if too dark.)
    5. Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the edges of a large doily with a dauber and the original mix from step 3. Set aside to dry.
    6. Using a mix of Pine Green and Opaque White, daub the edges of another large doily and set aside to dry.
    7. Hand-tear a section of a light green decorative paper and Decou-Page it on the canvas under the doily. Let dry.
    8. Cut a 4” section of the large painted doily and Decou-Page it to the right side of the canvas, overlapping the light green decorative paper. Let dry.
    9. Cut or hand-tear the medium green decorative paper; Decou-Page it to the canvas on the diagonal. Let dry.
    10. Glue the tree to the canvas.
    11. Using a 3/4" flat brush, seal the entire piece with Decou-Page. Let dry.
    12. Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the edges of the canvas Pine Green.
    13. Using a 3/4 flat brush, "paint" a bit of the smaller decorative paper with Decou-Page, sprinkle it with glitter, and shake off the excess. Let dry.
    14. Cover the entire piece with another coat of Decou-Page. Let dry.
    15. Seal the entire piece including the sides with Traditions Satin Varnish.
    16. BURGUNDY CANVAS: Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the canvas with a mix of Opaque White and Warm White.
    17. Mix Brown Madder and Opaque White. Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the small doily with a dauber and the Brown Madder/Opaque White mix, blotting off quickly for a light effect. Set aside.
    18. Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the larger doily with a dauber and the Brown Madder/Opaque White mix, but allow this to be darker. Set aside.
    19. Cut a small section, about 2½”, of the smaller painted doily and adhere it to the canvas with Americana Matte Decou-Page about 1½” from the top on the left side. (Refer to photo, right.)
    20. Hand-tear a section of the light pink decorative paper and adhere it to the canvas under the doily with Decou-Page. Let dry.
    21. Cut the darker painted doily into sections about 4” in length and Decou-Page them to the right side of the canvas, overlapping the light pink decorative paper. Let dry.
    22. Cut or hand-tear the white and silver decorative paper, and Decou-Page it onto the canvas on the diagonal. Let dry.
    23. Glue the tree to the canvas.
    24. Using a 3/4" flat brush, seal the entire piece with Decou-Page. Let dry
    25. Using a 3/4" flat brush, paint the edges of the canvas Brown Madder.
    26. With a small brush, "paint" a bit of the smaller decorative paper with Decou-Page, sprinkle it with glitter, and shake off the excess. Let dry.
    27. Cover the entire piece with another coat of Decou-Page. Let dry.
    28. Using a 3/4" flat brush, seal the entire piece including the sides with Traditions Satin Varnish.
