As the nights are drawing in I love to use candles, so I decided to create a metallic effect Lantern with oxidized and hammered metal effects.
- DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Modeling Paste - White (DMM21-71)
- DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Texture Sand Paste (DMM23-71)
- MDF Lantern Kit - Candybox Crafts
- Half Pearls
- Die Cut Card - Spellbinders Petite Monarch
- Assorted Brushes
- Battery Candle
- Palette Knife
I assembled a MDF Lantern kit with DecoArt Liquid Glass and decorated with half pearls.
Apply DecoArt Media Modelling Paste to the top with a palette knife.
To create the hammered metal effect, texturize by putting the blade flat and lifting, repeat all over until evenly spread.
Decorate around the base with Die cut card.
Apply DecoArt Texture Sand Paste to all the remaining surfaces.
Paint the interior with DecoArt Media Fluid Carbon Black.
Paint all exterior surfaces with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Burnt Umber.
Once dry, apply a random wash of Cobalt Teal Hue.
Once dry, apply a random wash of Quinacridone Gold.
Allow the colour to pool in some areas to create a more natural effect.
Same process with Carbon Black, but very diluted so that the previous colours still show through.
Once dry, dry brush very lightly with DecoArt Dazzling Metallic Worn Penny.
Followed by Dark Patina.
and finally Teal.
