Make a spooky eyes Halloween candy jar using DecoArt® Glass Paint™.
SUPPLIES
- painter's tape
- baby wipes
- small liner brush
- freezer paper
- embroidery needle
- makeup sponge
- rubbing alcohol
- small round paintbrush
- 3/4" oval paintbrush
- lidded glass jar
INSTRUCTIONS
- Make sure the lidded jar is clean and free of oil and dirt. If needed, clean the jar and lid with rubbing alcohol and let dry completely.
- Spread out the freezer paper, shiny side up, and tape down to the work surface with painter's tape. Pour White onto the surface in several circles of varying size.
- Spread out the paint with the handle end of a paintbrush.
- Pour a small puddle of Fuchsia onto the covered work surface and dip a pin or needle into it.
- Drag the needle tip through the White circles from the outer edge toward the center.
- This process will give the look of veins.
- Pour Blue into the center of the eye shape. Add Fuchsia on top. (See photo.)
- Swirl the paints together with the pin/needle to give an iris effect.
- Pour Black into the center for the pupil of the eye. Add drops of White to create a light reflection effect in the eye.
- Repeat steps with different color combinations of Glass Paint: Orange, Yellow, Soft Violet, Pink, Red, Mint, Green, and Sky Blue.
- Allow eyes to dry completely. (Approximately 24 hours.) Peel off the eyes from freezer paper. If eye does not pull off cleanly, allow to dry more.
- Stick the eye shapes onto the outside of the glass jar.
- Move around until you get the desired composition.
- If the eyes do not stick, use Black as a glue by painting it onto the back side of eye shapes and sticking them back onto the glass surface. Clean up edges and surrounding glass with a baby wipe.
- Mask off around the eyes with painter's tape.
- With a makeup sponge, dab on Black onto the entire outside surface of the jar, excluding the masked area of the eyes.
- Dab Black onto the lid as well.
- Allow to dry.
- Once dry, use a soft oval brush and Black to paint over the dabbed areas. If the jar has a knob, paint on a spider.
- Remove the painter's tape before the paint dries.
- Allow to dry. If needed, paint another coat. Allow to dry completely.
- On the outside of the jar, in the area where the glass is clear, dab on a 2:1 mix of Yellow and Mint. Allow to dry.
- Add eyes to the spider with White and a liner brush.
- Using Red, add a scary marking to the spider. Let dry completely.
- Once dry, sketch on the word "TREATS" with a white colored pencil. (You can free-hand this design or use the pattern provided.) Paint over the sketch with White, using a small liner brush. Let dry.
- Allow to cure for four days before use. To make dishwasher safe, follow instructions on the glass paint bottles.
