Free as a Bird

Hello, Hello, Norma here with you today to share my latest DecoArt Media project. I’m calling this one Free As a Bird for obvious reasons, lol.

Items Needed:

I started out by adhering a sheet of scrapbook paper to my wooden plaque using Decoupage. Then I applied a thin layer of white gesso to give the paint something to grab onto as I started painting. I used water to thin it down a bit so that you could still see a little bit of the floral print underneath. Next I sketched my girl using a graphite art pencil.

This time I decided to use Sap Green as my grounding color. I used a size 00 round brush to create my outline before filling in my sketch and then added the shadows.

I worked a little backwards here. I didn’t think of adding the sun behind her until after so I had to create a mask out of scrap paper to cover her up. To give the sun a lot of depth, I used a combination of yellows with a bit of gold. I like to get the image stenciled and then go back and add the highlights and lowlights with a paint brush. I think that helps to really make the image pop.

It’s kinda hard to tell from the pic but, the sentiment is raised. I used the Personally Yours, Urban Ink stencil set with modeling paste. I also mixed in some burnt umber and then added more paint after it was dry. You guys!!! I totally LOVE the Personally Yours stencils!!!! If you’re a funky bohemian chic like me, then you NEED to go get these, like now!!

I kept painting of her clothing very loose. I liked the sorta washed/watercolor look that I got from the yellows and browns. All I did was add a little bit of Paynes Grey, Sap Green and Carbon Black to add a little more definition.

Instruction Image #5

I used gold for her jewelry along with the Patina Green Antiquing Cream. I also applied the Patina Green antiquing cream to the background. Ok you guys, this is another must have for your paint collection. The color is super gorgeous!!! I really, really love it, like for real!! Well, I think that’s it! Thank you so much for sharing a piece of your day with us and don't forget to check out my teamies projects for more inspiration!
