Customize an old nightstand with this lovely Otomi style pattern.
SUPPLIES
- stylus or pencil
- sandpaper
- detail brush
- carbon paper or transfer paper
- 1-2" brush
INSTRUCTIONS
- Choose a wooden piece of furniture with a flat front.
- If possible remove any hardware. Sand the piece to remove any sheen.
- Give the piece 2-3 coats of Pure White Satin Enamels paint.
- Find an otomi pattern online. Using an online grid maker, print out the image across 9 sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper and tape together to make a 'blown up' version of your otomi pattern.
- Tape carbon paper to the back of your otomi print out and center onto your piece of furniture.
- With a sharp pencil, trace over the outline of the otomi pattern.
- With detail brush, fill in the pattern with Satin Enamels in Metallic Pewter.
- Recoat if needed. The piece shown here only has one coat of paint so the brush strokes are more evident. If a darker, more opaque, finish is desired, give the otomi pattern a few different coats.
- Repeat on front and either side. There's no need to replace the carbon paper... one piece should work for three sides of the piece of furniture.
- Replace hardware and clean up any smudges by painting over with pure white. (The hardware on this piece did not remove.)
