Happy Bird Christmas Ornament

This festive feathered friend will add a touch of whimsey to your holiday tree.


    • water container
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • pencil
    • #3 round brush
    • #2 round brush
    • #2 liner brush
    • small wire tool
    • 8" piece of wire
    • clear glass ornament



    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Transfer the outline of the bird onto the ornament using the tracing and transfer papers and a pencil.
    2. Fill in the bird shape using the #3 round brush and Steel Grey.
    3. Transfer the wing shape to the bird.
    4. Fill in the wing shape with Cotton Ball and the #2 round brush.

    6. Transfer the hat shape onto the ornament and fill it in using the #2 round brush and Coastal Waters.
    7. Use the #2 liner brush to make Red Barn scallops along the wing and stripes on the hat. (Use the transfer method if you need to.)
    8. Use Black Tie to make polka dots on the wing; outline the bird and hat; and add the beak, eye and belly line.

    10. Fill in the area under the Red Barn wing scallop with Coastal Waters and the #2 liner brush. Add a Coastal Waters stripe on the tail with the same brush.
    11. Fill in the belly with Apple Green and the #2 round brush. Add an Apple Green dot to the top of the hat and a stripe to the tail with the #2 liner brush.
    12. Make a Red Barn stripe on the tail with the #2 liner brush. With the same brush and color, make dots along the belly line. Fill in the eye with the #2 liner brush and Cotton Ball. Use the #2 liner brush and Canary to fill in the beak.
    13. Transfer the legs to the ornament. Paint them in with the #2 liner brush and Cotton Ball.
    14. Paint Red Barn stripes on the legs and outline with Black Tie using the #2 liner brush. With Black Tie and the #2 liner brush, outline the stripes on the tail and the ball on the hat. Make polka dots on the belly with the #2 round brush and Coastal Waters.

    16. To make the wire hanger, grab one of the ends of wire and wrap the length of the wire making a spiral. Do the same on the other end. (Think of it as a curly letter "S"; refer to photo.)
