Let Them Eat Cake Stenciled and Painted Tray

Repurpose a wooden tray into a sweet wall accent with Americana® Multi-Surface Acrylics.


    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • pencil
    • #2 liner brush
    • 1/2" flat brush
    • cosmetic sponge
    • #4 shader brush
    • wooden tray
    • floral stencil



    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Paint the background of the tray Turquoise Waters with the 1/2" flat brush.
    2. Mix a lighter version of Turquoise Waters by adding 1 part Cotton Ball. Use the cosmetic sponge and a floral stencil to put a pattern on the background.
    3. Paint a scallop design around the edge of the background of the tray with Leprechaun and the #4 shader brush.
    4. Paint the frame part of the tray with Flamingo and the 1/2" flat brush.
    5. Add dots of Pink Cadillac to the inner rim of the tray with the #4 shader brush.
    6. Transfer the cake design to the side of the tray background using tracing paper and a pencil.
    7. Use a cosmetic sponge, Steel Grey, and the Simple Script Alphabet Stencil to spell out "Let them eat cake". (See photo for placement.)
    8. Using the #2 liner brush and Steel Grey, freehand a line and scallops under the word "cake". Fill in the scallops with the same brush and Pink Cadillac.
    9. With the #2 liner brush, outline the cake stand and dome in Steel Grey. With the #2 liner brush and the #4 shader brush, fill in the cake design. (See photo for color placement.)
