Light Up Fireflies Shadow Box

Light up a room with this whimsical shadow box light.


    • paper towels
    • sandpaper
    • 1" flat brush
    • set of clear lights with white wire
    • twine, jute, or string of choice
    • E6000 Glue
    • shadow box
    • branch
    • glass jars



    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. If needed, sand the shadow box surface to smooth out. Remove any dust with a damp paper towel.
    2. Paint the shadow box randomly with Inch Worm and Waterfront using a 1" flat brush.

    4. Repeat with Pink Tropics. If needed, add Waterfront or Inch Worm back on top of Pink Tropics.

    6. Paint the entire shadow box with Cotton Ball.

    8. Using sandpaper, sand off Cotton Ball randomly, allowing the colors underneath to show through. Remove dust with a damp paper towel.

    10. Apply a coat of Americana Matte Decou-Page to the entire box.

    12. Trim the branch to fit inside the box. Using E6000 Glue, adhere the branch into place according to the glue package instructions. Feed the lights through the back slot of the box, leaving the battery pack in the back.

    14. Tie the string, twine, or jute around the mouths of the jars. Make a hanger by tying another piece of string to the sides of the first string. Put the screw top (with the lid) back on to help keep the string in place around the mouth of the jar. Tie hanger onto the branch. Tuck lights into the jars.
