Matte Metallic Pendants and Jewelry Tray

Matte Metallic Pendants and Jewelry Tray

Posted by DecoArt on Mar 20th 2018

Now that spring is underway I'm craving sunshine, flip flops and lots of bright and cheerful colors. It felt like winter stretched on forever and after a fairly blah start to the new year I'm ready to for a fresh start. These bright colored hand painted necklaces are a fun way to add a pop of color to your wardrobe, and you can keep them all organized with a pretty little metallic painted jewelry tray.

One of the things I love about working with DecoArt is the opportunity to flex my creative muscles and try new things. I love that you can transform everything from junkyard furniture finds, like my DIY Metallic Bar Cart, to custom canvas artwork. It's amazing what you can create with a blank surface and a little bit of paint. All you need is a few supplies and less than 30 minutes to create your own colorful jewelry.

Items Needed:

Instruction Image #1

Start by painting your wooden jewelry tray with the navy paint. Set aside and let it dry.

Instruction Image #2

Once the base coat on the jewelry tray has dried place the stencil in the inside and begin painting with the matte metallic paint. I am loving the new matte metallic acrylics from DecoArt. They offer a subtle sheen to your DIY projects and deliver excellent, opaque coverage.

Carefully remove the stencil and set your jewelry tray aside to dry.

Meanwhile, use the painter's tape to create patterns on the wood pieces for your necklaces.

Use a variety of the bright acrylic paints and the matte metallics to create fun and colorful designs. Once the paint has dried on these pieces give them a coat of the Americana acrylic sealer to help protect them from wear and tear.

Now it's time to piece your necklace together. Drill a small hole in both the top and bottom of the wood piece and insert a jump ring with a pair of jewelry pliers. Add a tassel to the bottom of the necklace and securely close the jump ring.

Add the second jump ring to the top of the necklace and string your gold chain necklace through it. Make sure you get the jump ring securely closed so you don't lose your new bling!

Pair these fun and colorful necklaces with bright colored earrings and bracelets for a trendy fashion statement.

Keep everything organized in your pretty new little jewelry tray. My girls have already tried to steal mine from me, so it looks like I'll be making a few more of these soon!  What would you keep in your hand painted tray?
