Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Print out a wood texture large enough to fit over the house. (Shown: This one was about 15" x 17" before I cut it down.) Adhere the house onto the canvas using Matte Medium. Paint the background in a mix of Prussian Blue Hue, Dark Grey Value 3, and Payne's Grey. Let dry. Once dry, use a mop brush to brush Blue Green Light over the top portion of the canvas to create an ombre look. (See photo.)
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Paint the roof in a mix of Quinacridone Violet and Payne's Grey. Using a dry brush, darken the edges of the house and the roof with Payne's Grey. Mix slightly more Payne's Grey into the roof mix, and use a liner brush to add the scallops of the roof. (If you would like an even more eerie mood, mix together Green Gold, Blue Green Light, and Dark Grey Value 3 and use a flat brush to dry-brush the mix on the upper half of the canvas on the outside of the house.)
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Transfer the windows, chimney, and roofline spikes. Mix together Green Gold, Blue Green Light, Titanium White, and Yellow Oxide; use the mix to paint in glowing windows. Dry-brush the outside of the windows to make it appear that the light is shining out. Save mix for next step. Use a liner brush and Payne's Grey to outline the windows and panes. Paint the chimney and roof spikes in Dark Grey Value 3 and Payne's Grey.
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Paint the back of the door in the same mix as the windows. (Step 3) (I added a small amount of white to the center of the door to create a brighter haze.) Paint the gates in Dark Grey Value 3. Use a stencil brush to pounce Carbon Black onto the gates.
    8. Instruction #4
    9. Create a border around the doorway in Dark Grey. Dry-brush on Titanium White for a slight hightlight. Print out your favorite ghostly characters. (I used a vintage Frankenstein and bride.) Cut out the figures and adhere them into the doorway. Water down some Sap Green; use a small brush to paint their hands and faces. Paint the bats, flooring, and webbing in Payne's Grey. If desired, use a dry brush and Payne's Grey to slightly age the inside of the doorway.
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Outline where you will position the doorway onto the house, using a dry brush to create a haze around the doorway. Attach the gates to the doorway with hinges. Attach the door to the canvas using E6000 Glue. Mix together Texture Sand Paste, Payne's Grey, and Quinacridone Magenta. Use a palette knife to apply the mix roughly to the outside of the canvas.
