SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • scissors
    • wax paper or freezer paper
    • 6" x 6" stretched canvas
    • metallic fabric mesh or other mesh
    • four rolls of Washi masking tape
    • picture of bird
    • tissue paper
    • large stamp
    • 1" bristle brush
    • synthetic brush for varnish
    • inkpad in olive green (optional)

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Paint the canvas, front and sides with Warm White.
    2. Using a 1" bristle brush, pick up a small amount of Brown Madder and lightly work it into the upper left corner of the canvas. Wipe and rinse brush.
    3. Using a 1" bristle brush, pick up a small amount of Pine Green and work into into the bottom right corner of the canvas. Clean brush.
    4. Using a 1" bristle brush, pick up a large amount of Light Pearl and, starting in the middle, work toward the corners. Let dry.
    5. Place tissue paper on the sheet of waxed or freezer paper to prevent ink from staining the work surface. Ink stamp and press onto the tissue paper. When dry, tear by hand around the stamped design, and decoupage onto bottom right corner with Americana Matte Decou-Page. Let dry.
    6. When dry, apply Decou-Page to the front and sides of the canvas. Place mesh onto canvas but don't worry about corners just yet. Let dry.
    7. When dry, trim the excess mesh from the corners with scissors. Apply another layer of Decou-Page to front and sides of the canvas.
    8. Adhere the bird picture to the bottom right corner over the mesh and stamped image with Decou-Page. Let dry.
    9. Tear off or cut Washi tapes into roughly 10” lengths. Starting at top, press the tape pieces firmly into place.
    10. Repeat the placing of tape pieces on the left side of the canvas.
    11. Gently weave the tape pieces through the mesh.
    12. When pleased, press tape pieces down firmly and adhere them into place with Decou-Page, including into the sides of the canvas.
    13. Give the tape pieces another coat of Decou-Page; let dry.
    14. Using a 1" bristle brush, seal with DuraClear Gloss Varnish.
