Let your art take off with this traveling art caddy made with Americana® Decou-Page™.

    • scissors
    • paintbrush
    • pencil
    • wooden box
    • electric drill
    • palette knife
    • maps
    • faux leather handle

Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Gather all supplies.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Decide and mark with pencil where you want the handle to go. Drill a hole. ( I used the scissors for this step because the wood on the box was thin. But if your box is thicker, you can use an electric drill.)
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Cut the map or atlas paper to fit each section of the wooden box. Paint Gloss Decou-Page onto the surface of the wooden section.
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Paint Gloss Decou-Page onto the back of the cut-out paper for the section you are working on.
    8. Instruction #4
    9. Place the wet side of the cut-out paper to the wet wood surface. Press flat with fingers and smooth out with a clean palette knife to get rid of any trapped bubbles. Paint over the dry side of the paper with Gloss Decou-Page.
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Cover the outside of the box, decoupaging each section. Let dry as needed in between sections so your fingers don't stick to the surface. Leave some wood exposed to paint.
    12. Instruction #6
    13. Continue to cover the inside of the box, cutting the paper to fit each section of wood.
    14. Instruction #7
    15. Paint the exposed sections of the box with a matching Americana Acrylic color. (I used Terra Cotta that matched the handles I had found for my box.) Work in small sections. Brush on layer of paint.
    16. Instruction #8
    17. While the paint is wet, scrape/draw into the paint, exposing wood and leaving a faux wood texture.
    18. Instruction #9
    19. Let the box dry. Once dry, add the handle.
    20. Instruction #10
    21. Fill with your favorite art supplies to use on the go.
    22. Instruction #11
