Upcycle wooden pieces into cute garden stakes to upgrade your outdoor decor using Patio Paint® Outdoor.

SUPPLIES

• paintbrush
• X-Acto® knife
• masking tape
• wooden dowel rods
• E6000 Glue
• circle template
• wooden shapes

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES:

Let each garden stake shape and its color palette happen organically, and you will be pleasantly surprised at what you create.

1. Gather materials. Pick all different kinds of wooden cut out shapes and pieces to have options to choose from. You will need a strong adhesive like E6000.

2. Pick a variety of Patio Paint colors to have on hand while painting to have fun choices. I chose: Tuscan Red, Orange Poppy, Salmon, Fiesta Yellow, Apple Green, Mistletoe Green, Blue Bahama, Blue Jay, Summer Sky Blue, Summer Lilac, Petunia Purple, Fuchsia, Cloud White, and Wrought Iron Black.

3. Play around with the shapes to create neat abstracted "flowers". Layer the pieces to make new textures and shapes.

4. Paint E6000 Glue onto the shapes to glue together. TIP: Spread the glue with an old paintbrush. TIP: To create a flush bond for the wooden dowel rods that will be glued to the back of the flowers, slice off a piece of the wood with an X-Acto knife before glueing.

5. Prop up the shapes and dowel rods so everything is level while drying. TIP: Use masking tape to hold things in place while drying.

6. One example of the painting techniques used for this heart and star "flower": I used Salmon for the first layer on the heart and Cool White for the stripes on the stick. I added Fuchsia circles and painted the edge of the star with Blue Jay, using a small flat brush. I kept building up colors and shapes with Tuscan Red in the circles and Lavender on the star and ring. I then added Mistletoe Green mixed with Cloud White to the star.

7. While the front was drying, I painted more colors and shapes onto the back of the "flower" with Blue Jay, Tuscan Red, and Mistletoe Green.

8. Here is an example of what my finished piece looks like. I continued to build up the surface with Cloud White dots and x shapes. To finish, I painted Wrought Iron Black details, accents, and stripes, which made all of the bright colors pop.
