Painted Turtle Costume Shirt

A simple t-shirt and some paint combine for a kicking Halloween costume for kids (or even adults).

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • scissors
    • #12 flat brush
    • scrap of corrugated cardboard or paper
    • small white T-shirt (50% cotton/50% polyester)
    • pen
    • #1 round brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    Preparation: Remove all tags from t-shirt and prewash with no softeners. Dry.

    1. Use a scrap piece of cardboard or a piece of freezer or wax paper to place inside the shirt to keep paint from going through both sides.

    3. Use a pen and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the front of shell to the front of the t-shirt. (See photo.)

    5. Use a #12 flat brush and Muted Gold to paint the entire inside of the shell. Rinse brush.

    7. Use the same brush and Brown Sugar to paint the border around the shell. Rinse brush.

    9. Use the #1 round brush and Brown Sugar to add details. (You can re-transfer the shell lines if you need to.) Rinse brush. Let the side completely dry.

    11. On the back side of the shell, use a #12 flat brush and Green Beret to paint the inside of the shell. Rinse brush.

    13. Use a #12 flat brush and load Brown Sugar to paint the border around the shell. Rinse brush. Let shell dry completely.

    15. Use a pen and the tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer the back of shell pattern to the back of the t-shirt.

    17. Use a #12 flat brush and Turf Green to fill in the shell sections. Rinse brush.

    19. Let t-shirt dry completely.
