Playful, Colorful Christmas Stockings
Posted by DecoArt on Nov 11th 2020
You or the kids can personalize Christmas stockings this year with SoSoft® Fabric Paints.
SUPPLIES
- cardboard
- masking tape
- needle and thread
- yarn
- small flat brush
- medium flat brush
- pompons
- tassels
- scissors
- canvas stockings
- color pencil
INSTRUCTIONS
- Trace the stocking onto a piece of cardboard. Cut out to create forms to place inside each stocking while being painted. (It will prevent paint from soaking through to the other side.)
- Plan where you would like to place your colors and mask off where the different colors will be.
- Using a light color pencil, draw on a rounded heel and toe. Paint the heel and toe of the first stocking with Peacock Teal, using a medium flat brush.
- Paint Peacock Teal onto the top section of the first stocking in a pattern of half rings. For the second stocking, draw on a floral pattern (or trace using the provided pattern) in the center section. Paint around the flowers with Peacock Teal.
- Draw on a scalloped edge around the heel and toe of the second stocking. TIP: Use a light color pencil that will not show through the fabric paint.
- Optional: Draw on a letter in the section between the heel and the toe of each stocking.
- Using a small flat brush, paint Santa Red onto each stocking in the areas planned for red. TIP: Paint around the edges first and then fill in the areas with color.
- TIP: Painting with one color of a time helps reduce clean-up and time.
- Optional: If you added an initial, draw some floral designs inside the letter for a cute addition.
- Using Bright Coral, paint flowers and accents onto each stocking.
- Fill in the areas intended as green on each stocking with Christmas Green.
- Add Bright Yellow as an unexpected pop of color to the stockings.
- For the areas where you want to have white, leave the canvas unpainted and add accents with dots of colors. Let stockings dry completely.
- When the stockings are dry, add some sparkle into the Santa Red areas with Red Twilight (Glitter). Allow to dry.
- For the Peacock Teal areas, paint on Sea Aqua (Glitter). Allow to dry.
- For the Bright Yellow areas, paint on Clear Ice (Glitter). Allow to dry.
- Pick pre-made pompons and tassels to embellish the stockings. (Or make your own pompons and tassels with the attached tassel and pompon instructions and photos. I chose to make my own out of pink and red yarn.)
- Sew or glue the tassels onto the stocking.
- Sew or glue the pompoms onto the stocking.
- Paint a variety of stockings that coordinate for family and friends!.
- Group together with other decorations to have a bright, colorful holiday season.
