SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • #3 round brush
    • 1/2" flat brush
    • palette knife
    • 6" x 9" wooden canvas

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Use a palette knife to apply White Modeling Paste to the top of the wooden canvas. (Move the knife around until you have a random texture.)
    2. While the Modeling Paste is still wet, carve out a simple drawing of a dress with the handle end of a paintbrush. (Refer to the pattern for inspiration.) Start with the bodice and then do the skirt. Add the collar, buttons, and the scallop at the bottom.
    3. Mix Primary Magenta and Burnt Umber 1:1. Paint the canvas front and sides with this mixture and the 1/2" flat brush.
    4. Dip the 1/2" flat brush into Cobalt Turquoise Hue and wipe off most of the paint onto the palette or plastic plate. Dry-brush Cobalt Turquoise Hue all over the background of the canvas front. (Use more paint closer to the dress to create a halo effect.) If you get too much paint on the canvas, wipe it off immediately with your finger.
    5. Mix (2) parts Primary Magenta with (1) part Titanium White. Do the same dry-brush technique as described in step 4 on the upper part of the dress using the 1/4" flat brush.
    6. Add a touch of Burnt Umber to Titanium White and dry-brush this mix on the skirt with the 1/2" flat brush.
    7. Using the #3 round brush, make polka dots on the skirt using the same dry-brush technique. (Refer to photo for placement.)
    8. Repeat the dry-brush technique with the #3 round brush and Gold Metallic on the collar and scallop.
    9. Switch to the 1/2" flat brush and repeat the dry-brush technique with Gold Metallic on the top edge and sides of the canvas.
