Reusable Metallic New Year's Sign

Ring in the New Year, every year, with this reusable sign made with Metallic Lustre®.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • paper towels
    • sandpaper
    • soft cloth
    • pencil
    • painter's tape
    • 2" chip brush
    • #5 round brush
    • wood boards
    • velcro
    • papier-mâché shape

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. If needed, sand the board and wipe away any sanding dust with a paper towel.
    2. With a 2" chip brush, cover the entire board with Carbon.
    3. Tape off about a 1-1/2"-2" border around the entire board. Using a soft cloth, apply Gold Rush along the entire outside border. Let dry. Once dry, buff to shine.

    5. Remove the tape. Freehand "Happy New Year" or other desired phrase in the Carbon area. With a small flat brush, paint in the lettering with Gold Rush.

    7. Roughly paint in swirly accents and lining around the wording with Gold Rush.
    8. Paint a papier-mâché lid or other round object in Gold Rush. Let dry. Once dry, loosely paint the year and decorative elements in Carbon with a #5 round brush.

    10. Apply Soft-Touch Varnish to the board.

    12. For a removable year, attach velcro onto the papier-mâché lid and sign. Attach the year sign. (If a permanent year is wanted, use E6000 Glue.)
