Rustic Thanksgiving Tablescape

Set your fall table with a rustic, simple look with this DIY centerpiece and table runner.


    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • sandpaper
    • scissors
    • ruler
    • pencil
    • painter's tape
    • 1" flat brush
    • burlap
    • power saw
    • hammer
    • 1" foam brush
    • dried Spanish moss
    • foam pumpkin
    • cardstock
    • flower
    • wooden board



    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Cut a 1"x 8" x 24" long piece of wood for the bottom of the box. Cut two 1"x 8"x 5.5" pieces for the ends of the box. Cut two pieces 1"x 6"x 25.5" for the sides of the box.

    3. Sandwich the bottom of the box with the sides all around it to be sure that it all fits together nicely. Use a nail gun or hammer and small nails to assemble.

    5. Sand the box to smooth out any rough edges.

    7. Create a mix of Bittersweet and Black Tie. (Add Black Tie in until the desired color is achieved.) Using a 1" flat brush, brush onto the box one side at a time. Using a paper towel, wipe off the paint to create a stained effect.
    8. Paint two pumpkins in Golden Straw and one pumpkin in White Wash. Paint smaller accent pumpkins of your choice in Whispering Blue.

    10. Cut a corner off a piece of cardstock.

    12. Use the corner to trace triangles around the top of the pumpkin.

    14. Carefully tape off the triangles with painter's tape.

    16. Repeat the striping to cover the entire pumpkin.

    18. Paint the open areas between the masking tape with Midnight Blue. Remove the tape while the paint is still wet.

    20. Measure a 36" length of burlap.

    22. Using painter's tape, tape off 2.5" of the center of the burlap. Next, tape off another 3/4" stripe next to the stripe just created.

    24. Mix Midnight Blue with Fabric Painting Medium according to label instructions. Paint all stripes with the mix. Remove the tape while the paint is still wet.

    26. Fill the box with dried Spanish moss. Arrange the pumpkins and flowers as desired.
