She Dreams Mixed Media Canvas

Create a cool mixed media canvas featuring a beautiful face and wonderful dimensional flowers.


    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • transfer paper
    • pencil
    • 1" flat brush
    • 1/2" flat brush
    • 1/4" flat brush
    • #0 liner brush
    • assorted buttons
    • black fine-point permanent marker
    • 1-1/2" brush
    • brayer
    • canvas
    • 3D flowers
    • E6000 Glue
    • spray bottle
    • pastel pencil



    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Spread a thin, even layer of White Gesso onto the canvas using a 1" flat brush.
    2. Add a dab of Payne's Grey onto the canvas; spritz with a little water; and roll the brayer up, down, and across the canvas. Repeat using Hansa Yellow Medium, White Gesso, and Dioxazine Purple. Let the colors dry and wash the brayer thoroughly between colors. Repeat the process until the desired look is achieved.

    4. Using the transfer paper, copy the outside of the face and hair pattern onto the canvas.
    5. Using a 1-1/2" brush and Honey Brown, brush the skin color onto the face. Let dry. Once dry, place the transfer paper and pattern over the face and transfer the facial features.

    7. Use White Gesso to paint in the lips and eyelids.

    9. Use 1/2" flat and 1/4" flat brushes to paint the eyelid in Hansa Yellow Medium. Use the 1/4" flat brush to paint the lips using Dioxazine Purple. Use a 1/2" flat brush to paint the hair in the same color. (Paint in a circular motion to give texture.) Mix a small amount of White Gesso with Dioxazine Purple to add light to the hair.

    11. Color in the eyebrow and eyelashes using a black permanent marker. (Be sure paint layers are completely dry before adding eyebrows.) Dab a touch of Dioxazine Purple on the eyelid and spread with a finger. Use a thin black marker to draw in the nose and a brown pastel pencil to add shading along the side of the face, eyes, nose, chin, and lips. Use a finger to spread/smear.

    13. Use Titanium White and a liner brush to add highlights to the eyelid and lips. Use a white pastel pencil to create light on the forehead, center of nose, lips, and chin. Smear color with a finger. (Refer to photo at Step 7 for placement.)
    14. Gather three flowers to make hair ornament. Use E6000 Glue to adhere to the canvas according to packaging directions. Use buttons for the flower centers.

    16. Use a Silver Twinkles Writer to free-hand flourishes around the flowers. To finish, line the bottom of the hair by making small dots.
