"Smile" Shadow Box Canvas

Ever thought about using the other side of the canvas? I'll show you how to create a shadow box effect with a simple stretched canvas.

Items Needed:

  • DecoArt Media Mediums and Specialty Products - Gesso - Black (DMM19-71)
  • Canvas 7.5" X 19.5"
  • Prima Candy Gems - Caramel Apple
  • Prima Laraine - Candy Apple
  • Little Birdie Boutique Elements
  • 7Gypsies Alphabet Stickers Postale
  • K&C Company Sparkly Sweet Chipboard Alphabet
  • La Blanch Flowers
  • Kars Strass Adhesive Stones
  • Stencils
  • Old Plastic Mister Bottle
  • Wood And Metal Embellishments


Use the backside of a canvas 7.5“ x 19.5“

Paint canvas with Media Gesso black.

Instruction Image #2

Use different stencils with Modeling Paste black.

Instruction Image #3

Apply some dimension inside the canvas and on the outside frame if you like.

Glue down the preferred embellishments and paint with black Gesso.

Spray white flowers with Media Mister carbon black and glue down.

Paint old plastic bottle with black gesso and glue down.

A close up on the canvas, everything glued down and painted with black Gesso on top.

Paint a layer of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Grey Value 6 over the complete canvas.

Glue down Prima Flowers with your desired choice of colour.

Paint Decoart Media Fluid Acrylics Interference Gold on some spots.

Paint Chipboard Alphabet with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Quinacridone Red.

Instruction Image #12

Glue Alphabet inside the canvas and complete the quote with smaller stickers, painted red, too.

Apply some matching strass stones and you're done
