Add a delicate dash of color to your home with the distressed shabby chic sign.

    • stylus or pencil
    • sandpaper
    • ruler
    • 1" flat brush
    • screwdriver
    • old rag
    • 1/2" brush
    • small round brush
    • screws
    • glass test tube
    • paneled wooden signboard
    • pipe straps
    • letter stencil
    • round tip brush

Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Paint the wooden signboard surface, including the sides, in Sea Glass using a 1" flat brush.
    2. Instruction #1
    3. Stencil the font in Cotton Ball using a small round brush. (You can also sketch/paint the font onto the surface. For beginners, stenciling is suggested.)
    4. Instruction #2
    5. Using an old rag, rub Bittersweet onto the sign using circular motions. (You will want to still see Sea Glass and Cotton Ball through the Bittersweet. It is almost like you are glazing or staining the surface.)
    6. Instruction #3
    7. Rub sandpaper in a circular motion over the surface, creating a distressed look. On the edges, sand more so that the wood is showing through in some spots.
    8. Instruction #4
    9. Using a round tip brush and Cotton Ball, selectively go over the font again to make it more visible.
    10. Instruction #5
    11. Paint a layer of Bittersweet on the pipe strap using a 1/2" brush. After this dries, apply a layer of Sea Glass. While paint is still wet, use the old rag and wipe away some of the paint. (This will create a distressed look to match the rest of the piece.)
    12. Instruction #6
    13. Lay the test tube in a desired location. Lay the pipe clamp on top of the tube and mark where you will screw it into the board. Use a screwdriver to install the screws. (Be sure not to screw them too tightly or else they could break the test tube.) Repeat step 6 to distress the screws.
