Spring Porch Décor Solar Lamp

Use Patio Paint Outdoor™ to create this energy-efficient and visually stunning porch light.

SUPPLIES

    • paper towels
    • rubbing alcohol
    • pencil
    • X-Acto® knife
    • masking tape
    • E6000 Glue
    • lamp
    • solar light
    • scissors
    • 3/4" flat brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Upcycle an old lamp found at a thrift store. (Any shape or material will work as long as it can be fitted with the solar light.) This idea can be used with a modern porch or garden décor.

    2. The lampshade was not needed for this project. I will save that for another DIY craft.

    3. Remove the inside electric workings (cords, sockets, screws, etc.)

    4. Scrub down the lamp surface to clean and then wipe with rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining dirt and oils.

    5. Remove any parts that are not to be painted. Paint the entire lamp surface with Cloud White, including the inside where the solar light will go. Allow to dry.

    6. Plan your design based on the shape of the lamp. ( I wanted to use a limited color palette with color blocking, so I chose a simple scallop accent.) Draw your design directly on the surface or cover area with masking tape and then trace on the provided scallop template around the edge. (See photo) Use an X-Acto knife to cut out the pattern.

    7. Paint the lamp with Lime Zest. (TIP: Mix in a drop of Cloud White to the color of the Patio Paints as you are using to make the paint more opaque. Then, if needed, the second coat can be a layer of the color by itself.)

    8. Paint the top and the bottom areas with Lime Zest, leaving the middle areas and the scallops for the next color. Paint with a second coat, if needed.

    9. Paint the middle and scallop areas with Blue Bahama. Paint with second coat if needed. Allow to dry.

    10. Mix a dot of Cloud White with Fuchsia and use to paint some accents.

    11. Find a solar light that will fit into your lamp seamlessly. Remove the stick and glue into the lamp with a permanent glue compatible with the material of the lamp (like E6000 Glue). Allow to dry.

    12. This is a cool front porch idea to add with other DIY spring porch projects. Or use in the garden for solar yard art.
