Steampunk Inspired Plaque Necklace

Create this steampunk inspired necklace with DecoArt's Media Fluid Acrylics and Metallic Lustre.

Items Needed:

  • MDF Plaque
  • Various Embellishments
  • Adhesive

After getting my piece if shaped MDF wood, I chose which embellishments I wanted to use.

I cut my chosen wooden embellishment in half and glued it into place.

Then I painted on a coat of Media Fluid Acrylics in Blue Green Light followed by a coat of Cobalt Teal Hue and let it dry, (you can dry it gently with a heat tool to speed things up).

I gave the whole thing a watery wash of titanium white, let it dry then repeated the wash a few times until I liked the look.

Next, I attached my metal embellishments. (Use a strong contact glue and allow to set as per manufacturer’s instructions). Once the glue was set, I also gave them a coat of Blue Green light and then Cobalt Teal Hue. I didn’t worry too much about how well the paint covered the metal as I wouldn’t mind metal showing through. As it happens it covered it very well.

When it was dry, I gave it a wash of the watery titanium white as I had done on the other part of the necklace.

To finish it off and add a bit of bling, I used the Metallic Lustre Gold Rush using my finger (you can use a soft cloth) and just lightly touched over the raised areas.

I let that dry and then buffed it up with a cloth.

You may wish to apply a coat of Multipurpose sealer to protect it at this stage. Now attach a chain or thong. And it’s done.
