Summer Tray with Tree Silhouette

A wooden tray embellished with a tree silhouette serves up vibrant color to any meal.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • painter's tape
    • fine-grit sandpaper
    • 1" sponge brush
    • 12" x 9.25" handled wooden tray
    • small fine-tip detailing brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Lightly sand the tray with fine-grit sandpaper to remove rough edges.
    2. Paint the outside and top edges of the tray Tangelo Orange using a 1" sponge brush. (Apply multiple coats as needed.) Allow to dry thoroughly.
    3. Tape a 1.5" border around the inside bottom of the tray with painter's tape. Paint the remaining bottom and inner sides of the tray Calypso Blue. (Apply multiple coats as needed) Remove the tape. Allow to dry thoroughly.
    4. Apply painter's tape to the center bottom and inner walls of the tray, leaving a 1" border open around the perimeter of the tray bottom. Paint a 1" border using Tuscan Red. (Apply multiple coats as needed.) Allow to dry, and remove the tape.
    5. Fill in the remaining .5" border using Foliage Green, adding extra coats as desired.
    6. Trace and transfer the tree and leaf pattern to the inside bottom of the tray. Fill in the shapes using Foliage Green and the fine-tip detailing brush. Freehand branch and leaf shapes onto the outer side of the tray.
