Sunflower and Sun Summer Frame

Give a favorite photo a sunny summertime home with Americana® Acrylics.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • scissors
    • wood glue
    • fine/small round brush
    • black fine-point permanent marker
    • wooden frame with 3-1/2" square window
    • 2" wooden circle
    • 7 woodcraft sticks
    • 3 woodcraft picks
    • 1/2" round brush

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Allow to dry between painting steps.

    1. Using the 1/2” round brush and horizontal brushstrokes, start painting the frame with Baby Blue on the top, gradually adding Snow White all the way to the bottom. Let dry.
    2. Paint a 2” wooden circle with two coats of Bright Yellow. Let dry.
    3. Trace and transfer the patterns. (See photo for placement.)
    4. Paint the grass Foliage Green with upward brushstrokes of varying heights from the bottom of the frame.
    5. Paint four sunflowers Bright Yellow using inward brushstrokes. Paint the middle of the sunflowers with circle shapes of Burnt Umber.
    6. Cut seven craft sticks to approximately 2” inches, slightly varying in height. Paint with two coats of Snow White.
    7. Paint three craft picks with two coats of Snow White.
    8. Glue the Bright Yellow circle to the top right of the frame window with wood glue.
    9. Paint the sunrays in Bright Yellow with free-flowing strokes.
    10. Glue the Snow White craft sticks vertically across the bottom of the frame. Glue the Snow White craft picks horizontally across the middle. (See photo for placement.)
    11. With a black marker, draw the sun’s eyes and mouth, the dotted lines around sun, and the tips of the sunrays.
    12. Paint two small Bubblegum Pink circles for the sun’s cheeks using a small round brush.
