Technique Inspiration Board

Technique Inspiration Board

Posted by DecoArt on Jan 24th 2017

One way to remember some of the different painting - techniques of Andy Skinner is to paint on good quality cardboard (tags) and writing a description and used products on the back. Bind cardboard together with a book ring and you have a nice inspiration (tag) book to go. My idea was to create an elaborately designed but not complicated technique board to visualize a few techniques at a single glance in my studio.

Items Needed:

Instructions:

Start by cutting two circles ( diameter 15“ same size each) from cardboard and corrugated cardboard. Draw sections like a mosaic to cardboard and cut.

It's a good idea to number consecutively on the back of sections to prevent confusion. Paint the base circle of corrugated cardboard with Americana Multi-Surface Satin Black Tie. If your corrugated cardboard starts warping, paint the back, too.

Now on to the painting techniques on the different sections. When complete they are adhered - to the black painted - corrugated cardboard base - with Media Liquid Glass.

Apply Media Gesso black with a pallet knife and let dry. Apply Media Modeling Paste black with a pallet knife and let dry. Apply Media Modeling Paste black with stencil and let dry. Use Vaseline to some spots where you want the paint to resist. Create a mix of Media Fluid Acrylics Titan Buff and one drop of Media Fluid Acrylics Phethalo Turquoise and paint colour – mix to both sections. When dry use a cloth to remove the vaseline. Paint a wash of Media Fluid Acrylics Quinacridone Gold on top.
