"Things That Go" Picture Frame

Decorate your boy's room with this lively picture frame featuring things that go.


    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • sandpaper
    • scissors
    • pencil
    • #3 round brush
    • #2 liner brush
    • 1/2" flat brush
    • tracing & transfer paper
    • ornate picture frame



    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Remove the photo backing from the frame.

    3. With the 1/2" flat brush, paint the face of the frame with Slate Grey. Transfer the show pattern to the watercolor paper with the tracing and transfer papers and fill in the red area with the #3 round brush and True Red.

    5. Using the #3 round brush, add the Snow White areas of the shoe. Use the #3 round brush to add the halo to the shoe. Fill in the star with the #3 round brush and True Blue. Outline the shoe with the #2 liner brush and Lamp Black. Add stitching and highlights with the #2 liner brush and Snow White. Add shading and details with Slate Grey and the #2 liner brush.

    7. Using the #3 round brush, fill in the larger areas. With True Blue, fill in the car, and the wings of the Rocket. With Lavender, fill in the car and center section of the balloon. With Bright Orange, fill in the right section of the balloon and the body of the rocket. With Bright Yellow, add color to the submarine. Make Snow White clouds. Fill in the balloon basket with True Red. Use Festive Green for the left section of the balloon and the bottom part of the rocket body.

    9. With the #2 liner brush, add the detailed color areas. Use True Blue to add the circle to the top of the balloon, the stripes on the rocket, the windows of the sub, Lavender car tires and the wings of the rocket. Also with True Blue, outline the waves. With Lavender, add the propeller and the windows of the rocket. Use Bright Orange to add the detail at the bottom of the rocket and the rim of the balloon basket. Also make the stripe on the Lavender car Bright Orange. Make the tip of the rocket
    10. Outline all of the items with the #2 liner brush and Lamp Black. Just make a line at the top of the blue line on the waves.

    12. Paint the inside of the frame with Lamp Black and the outside rim of the frame with True Red. Use the #3 round brush and when it's dry, lightly sand just the edges to distress.
    13. Cut your watercolor paper to fit in the frame and assemble.
