Tropical Breeze Decorative Plate

Plate up this tropical scene in summertime colors with Americana® Acrylics.
SUPPLIES
- transfer paper
- pencil
- flat brush
- #8 flat brush
- small round brush
- large flat brush
- 1/2" rake brush
- medium flat brush
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Let dry completely between painting steps.
- Apply gesso to the entire plate. Let dry. Paint stripes of color horizontally in Electric Pink, Carousel Pink, Bright Salmon, Orange Flame, and Cadmium Yellow.
- Use a large brush to blend the stripes, double-loading the brush with the colors you are going to blend.
- Transfer the provided pattern using transfer paper. Use a medium flat and a small round brush to paint in the pattern areas. (Refer to photo.)
- Use a rake brush to create palm leaves by sliding the brush along the palm vein and pulling downward. (Do not load the brush too heavily.)
- Flip the pattern over and retrace the reflections of the mountains and the sailboat. (Refer to photo for placement.)
- Water down Lamp Black and paint in the reflection of the mountains and sailboat with a small round brush.
- Dry-brush in front of the sailboat and to the foreground with Cadmium Yellow and the flat brush horizontally. Use the handle end of a small paintbrush to add yellow dots over the dry-brushed yellow reflection.
- Dry-brush horizontally with Lamp Black and a #8 flat brush in the water areas on both sides of the yellow reflection.
- Spray the finished plate with matte spray finish.
