Tropical Toucan Watering Can

A toucan graces this pastel-embellished metal watering can.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • tracing paper
    • transfer paper
    • pencil
    • #3 round brush
    • #2 liner brush
    • 1/2" flat brush
    • metal watering can

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Using the 1/2" flat brush, paint the top surface, bottom section, and spout area, Shrimp; and the top section of the can, Iris. Use the #3 round brush and Coastal Waters to paint the two handles.

    3. When the handles are dry, add stripes of Apple Green using the #3 round brush.

    5. Use the #3 round brush to add: Polka dots to the spout area and the top section with Flamingo; Blue Bird stripes to the Iris section; and Flamingo scallop lines around the Shrimp section at the bottom of the can.

    7. Transfer the toucan pattern to the side of the watering can with the tracing and transfer papers and a pencil.
    8. Use the #3 round brush to fill in the toucan: The body and tail are Blue Bird. Make the face Lemon Zest. The beak is Peachy Silk, then Shrimp, and then Flamingo on the end. The wing stripes are Flamingo, Shrimp, Dolphin, Iris, and Flamingo again. The eye is Apple Green with an Iris ring around it.

    10. With the #2 liner brush, fill in the flower: The flower is Shrimp with an Iris dot in the center. The stem is Apple Green.
    11. Outline the entire toucan and flower with the #2 liner brush and Deep Turquoise. Fill in the feet with Lemon Zest. Add highlights with the #2 liner brush and Coastal Waters.
