Florals by Americana® Decou-Page Paper™ and color by DecoArt Media® give plain papier-mâché a vintage look.

SUPPLIES

    • water container
    • palette or plastic plate
    • paper towels
    • white cloth
    • 1" flat brush
    • 1/4" flat brush
    • small container
    • lace
    • 1" painter's tape
    • cosmetic sponge
    • 1" foam brush
    • stylus or toothpick
    • black fabric rose
    • wooden knob
    • palette knife
    • embellishments of choice
    • E6000 Glue
    • papier mâché house

    INSTRUCTIONS

    NOTES:

    Let dry completely between painting steps.

    1. Clean the house surface by wiping with a damp paper towel.

    3. Cover the house with two thin coats of White Gesso.

    5. Rip the Americana Decou-Page Victorian Romance Paper into sections and decoupage them onto the house using Americana Matte Decou-Page and a foam brush.

    7. Paint the rim of the bottom half of the house Carbon Black.

    9. Paint the sides of the chimney Quinacridone Magenta. Paint the top of the chimney Carbon Black. Dry-brush some Carbon Black over the Quinacridone Magenta on the sides of the chimney.

    11. Mix a tiny amount of Hansa Yellow Medium with Cerulean Blue to make a medium blue-green shade that matches the Victorian Romance Decou-Page Paper. Paint the wooden knobs with this shade. Save mix for later step.

    13. Attach the wooden knobs in the bottom corners of the house using E6000 Glue according to package instructions. Let them dry completely before continuing.

    15. Paint the wooden knobs with a thin coat of Turquoise Interference.

    17. Paint the entire decoupaged house with a thin coat of Turquoise Interference.

    19. Apply Champagne Ice with a white rag to all edges of the house. Buff to a shine.
    20. Stencil gears from the Americana Gears & Cogs Stencil onto the sides and back of the house using Dark Grey Value 3 and a cosmetic sponge. Mix Texture Sand Paste with Quinacridone Magenta to a desired color. Stencil the mix with a palette knife onto a small gear on each side of the slanted roof of the house.

    22. Paint a fabric rose with the mix from step 6. Paint the leaves and floral stem in Dark Grey Value 3. Once dry, paint a thin coat of Turquoise Interference onto the rose.

    24. Use E6000 Glue to attach a lace scrap underneath the painted leaves using Liquid Glass.
    25. Apply Liquid Glass onto the rose and leaves. Set aside upright in a small container to dry.

    27. Wind the wire stem of the rose around a toothpick to curl. Slip the toothpick out of the wire and stick the wire into the top of the chimney.

    29. Using E6000 Glue, attach black roses on each side of the house to mimic the rose on the top.

    31. Attach embellishments onto the house using E6000 Glue: Highlight the gear stencils on the sides and back of the house with metal gear embellishments for added dimension. Attach pearls and gems inside some of the metal gears. Attach metal numbers. Wrap decorative trim around the number on the front of the house.
