INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Let dry completely between painting steps.
- Cut out 1" x 4" and 1" x 6" boards using the following whale pattern. Lay out the wood boards according to the pattern.
- With a pencil, draw a similar whale onto the wood boards from the previous step. (Or make up your own pattern.)
- Drill pocket holes on the back of the wood. (Be careful to align each pocket hole so that it matches a part of the wood that will not be cut away.)
- Assemble the whale using 1-1/4" pocket screws. DO NOT USE GLUE.
- Cut along the pencil line on the assembled boards using a jigsaw or scroll saw to reveal the whale shape that you drew.
- Disassemble the whale by removing the pocket screws. Sand all edges of the wood so that they are smooth.
- Stain all visible portions of the whale in Black Color Stain (or other desired color) and let dry.
- Once dry, paint all the 1"x 6" boards using Lace. Set aside and let dry.
- Paint all the 1" x 4" boards using Vintage. Let dry.
- Sand the painted wood to let the stain below show through.
- Reassemble the whale. This time, use glue if desired.
- Apply a desired wax or varnish. (Shown: Clear Crème Wax)
- Mark and pre-drill holes for the coat rack hooks. Attach the coat rack hooks.
